Downloading Muse
- Head over to www.musesessions.co/download and download the correct version of muse for your computer.
- After download, make sure to restart your computer to ensure audio drivers are installed properly.
Download 3rd party audio cables
-
Download at least one third-party audio cable. We recommend both Virtual Audio Cable and Voicemeeter so you can record and share audio at the same time. You can download them for free from this link:
https://vb-audio.com/Voicemeeter/
- Restart your computer so audio drivers are fully installed.
Hosting or joining a session
-
When opening the Muse app, you can either join, host, or schedule a session. To join a session, click the session link provided by the host or copy the session URL after clicking "Join session."
- To host a session, click "Host session."
-
Before entering a session, you’ll see an Overview settings page where you can select the talkback microphone, speakers, and camera you want to use.
- Click "Start".
Inviting collaborators
-
Once you're in a session, you can invite collaborators by sharing the "Participant Session Link" or typing in their usernames. If the waiting room is enabled, participants will need your approval before they can join.
-
Once collaborators join your session, you can bring back the Invite Collaborator's window by clicking "Invite" in your main toolbar at the bottom of your screen.
- When someone clicks on the session link you've shared, they can click "join session" to join from the Muse app or "join as a guest" to join from the browser.
Sharing DAW Audio
- To share audio straight from your DAW to your collaborators, add the muse plugin to the master track of your DAW.
- "VB-Audio Virtual Cable" will automatically pop up in your Muse mixer. You can click on the gear icon to change the audio quality and sample rate.
Sharing Computer Audio
To share computer audio, click Add Music Device in the Muse Mixer and select a third-party audio device under Computer Audio. We recommend VB-Audio Virtual Cable.
If you’re already sharing DAW audio, you’ll need to stop sharing DAW audio first in order to use VB-Audio Virtual Cable.
Alternatively, you can use Voicemeeter Out B1, (Make sure to keep the Voicemeeter app open!)
- This will automatically switch your computer output to your third party audio device
Recording:
- Record your collaborators directly into your DAW. Find recording tutorials specific to your DAW here.
Sharing MIDI
- Send MIDI to your collaborators or record their MIDI performances directly into your DAW. MIDI tutorial can be found here.
Screen Share/screen control
-
Share your screen by clicking the Share Screen option in the bottom toolbar and selecting which screen you want to share.
- Sharing your "entire screen" is recommended if you plan to use screen control or if you’re working in a DAW, so your collaborators can see your plugin windows.
- When you start sharing your screen, Muse shows a yellow bar at the top as an indicator. You can move or collapse this toolbar if it’s in the way. To stop sharing, simply click Stop.
- To control someone else's screen, click on "Request Screen Control" while they are sharing their screen. Once they accept the request, you can use their computer.
- Note: When collaborating between Windows and Mac, hotkey combinations may differ from what you expect, so you may need to try different shortcuts.
- You can revoke screen control from a collaborator at any point by pressing "stop" next to "remove control" in the yellow bar or pressing CTRL+Shift+G.
Chatbox
- Drag and drop files to the chat box to share them with you collaborators. You can also drag files straight from the chat box into your DAW.
Muse Mixer
- In the Muse mixer, you have full control over you and your collaborators’ audio inputs.
- For your inputs, you can adjust volume with the fader, mute with the microphone icon, add or remove devices, or click on the drop down next to the Mute icon for "Auto Mute" or "Talkback."
- Use the gear icon to add channels, switch between mono and stereo, or change audio quality.
- For your collaborator’s inputs, you can adjust volume with the fader, mute with the microphone icon, solo with the headphones icon, or arm their input for recording with the circle icon.
View options
- The options in the toolbar allows you to customize your view to fit your workflow. The first icon collapses the Main View so the app does not take up your entire screen.
- You can also use the View dropdown to show or hide videos, inputs, or the sidebar.
